Simon Rood Joins Loyton Sporting – A New Chapter in a Storied Career

Simon Rood, the new face at Loyton Sporting, brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep passion for shooting sports and country pursuits. At 38, Simon’s journey through the world of fine gunsmithing and sales is marked by significant tenures at prestigious firms and a personal history steeped in the rich traditions of shooting and country living.

From Somerset Roots to the Prestige of Knightsbridge

Growing up on a farm in Somerset, Simon’s early exposure to the outdoors cultivated a lifelong affinity for shooting. His professional journey began at Avalon Guns where he spent his formative years, balancing work with education and later representing Somerset County in competitive clay shooting as a junior. His transition from Avalon to the heart of London marked a significant chapter, with roles at Ray Ward Gunsmith in Knightsbridge and William Evans in St James Street, where he honed his expertise in the finer aspects of the gun trade. Simon’s career took on an international spin when he became Head of American Sales at Purdey, a role he excelled in for over seven years. His leadership not only expanded Purdey’s reach but also deepened his understanding of international markets and customer relations.

A Return to Roots with Loyton Sporting

The call to join Loyton Sporting was a harmonious blend of professional ambition and personal lifestyle aspirations. Simon’s role at Loyton is not just about managing one of the UK’s top shooting providers; it’s about cultivating experiences and relationships. Home to the finest game shoots in the west country, Simon will work alongside Founder Angus Barnes, utilising his vast experience to enhance the services Loyton offers, focusing on sales in North America, bespoke shooting experiences and unparalleled hospitality.

Family and Future

Recently relocating to Devon with his wife, Jules, and their young children Albert, Edmund and Xanthe, Simon’s move mirrors his desire for his family to enjoy the pastoral lifestyle reminiscent of his childhood. His commitment to conservation and tradition is reflected in his active role with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, where he helps steer fundraising initiatives.

A Personal Touch to Professional Excellence

Simon’s approach to life and work blends a deep respect for tradition with a keen eye for innovation. His favourite shooting equipment includes a pair of Purdey side-by-side shotguns and the reliable Miroku MK38. When not orchestrating sales or engaging in conservation work, Simon enjoys coarse and fly fishing with his son, country walks, and the simple joy of a pub lunch. His story is one of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence—a narrative that will undoubtedly enrich the fabric of Loyton Sporting.
